Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)
By Hayao Miyazaki
This is the first film created and released by Studio Ghibli.
I can’t get over this film’s opening credits! The way it was illustrated and animated has this kind of rustic charm one can’t resist but admire greatly. The airship design, the gears, the robot design, the architectural design of the military fortress and even Laputa itself fascinates me to death. Though, the military fortress kinda reminds me of Howl’s moving castle.
Anyway, this film is about the search for Laputa and Sheeta, the bearer of this pure aetherium crystal, is the key to locate the legendary castle. (I really don’t have to spoil everything, right?)
Miyazaki vividly depicted an imaginary world through superb animation skills. What can I say? The man is a genius!
Watch this film when you feel like avoiding responsibilities. This film would make you realize the fact that you can’t ever run away from it.
